Malayalam veteran actor Kalinga Sasi who rose to fame with films like Pranchiyettan And The Saint, breathed his last at at a private hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala, on April 7th after succumbing to liver disease. He was 59 years old
The renowned actor who was part of more than 500 plays and 100 movies is survived by his wife Prabhavati.
Kalinga Sasi started his career with theater and made his movie debut in 1998, with the movie Thakarachenda​. Kalinga was also a diploma holder in engineering. Instead of his official name Chandra Kumar, the actor chose the name Sasi, which was his nickname among family and friends as his official stage name. Later director Ranjith added Kalinga to his name which was the name of his theater group.
Sasi Kalinga was more popular for his comic riles and facial expressions where his mouth would form an upside-down crescent, among other expressions he could make with his jaw.
Sasi was also working in upcoming films like Ekajalakam, The Voter and Son of Alibaba Nalpathonaman before death.
