Bengali actor-director who made his Bollywood debut with Kahani, Parambrata Chatterjee on Sunday announced that he will be helming a biopic on legendary actor and Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient, Soumitra Chatterjee on his 85th birthday. Parambrata told reporters that while 'Ghare Baire' actor will himself portray the later phase of his life, acclaimed actor Jisshu Sengupta who will essay the role of young Soumitra Chatterjee. Co-incidentally Jishu stepped into the veteran actor's shows in the present day rendition of Ghore Baire, a film by Aparna Sen. Jisshu whol made his Bollywood debut with Manikarnika will be next seen in Mahesh Bhatt''s Sadak 2.

The script of the film will be written by Padmanabha Dasgupta and cover the 60-year-old career of the actor in which he had acted in more than 300 films.
"It is an honour that a towering personality like Soumitra Chatterjee has given consent for a biopic. He is an institution of acting for every show biz performer," Parambrata, who had earlier directed 'Jiyo Kaka' and 'Hawa Bodol' and Feluda, Satyajit Ray's iconic series with the veteran actor by his side.
Soumitra Chatterjee is one of the most prestigious actors of Bengali cinema. In 2018, Soumitra was honoured with France's highest civilian award, the coveted Legion of Honor. He was the first Indian actor to receive the prestigious award. Soumitra has worked in several remarkable films, these include Charulata, Aranyer Din Ratri, Ashani Sanket, Sonar Kella and more. In 2004, he was awarded with Padma Bhushan. The actor was a popular face in most of maverick filmmmkaer Satyaji Ray's movies.
Parambrata, who is also known in Bengali cinema, was last seen in Bollywood in Anushka Sharma's horror thriller, Pari. He also starred in Academy Award winning short film Sold. Bringing Soumitra's life on the big screen will be a daunting task but Parambrata is all geared up for it.
Meanwhile Soumitra will be next seen in a prequel to his runway hit family drama, Bela Seshe. In the prequel titled Bela Shuru, Soumitra will star with the rest of the cast from Swatilekha Sengupta, Rituparna Sengupta, Aparajita Auddy, Kharaj Mukherjee, Indrani Dutta, Monami Ghosh, Anindya Chatterjee to Sankar Chakraborty and others. The movie will be helmed by director duo Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy. Bela Shuru’ will release in May this year.
