Popular Telugu actress Geetanjali Ramakrishna, best known for her role of Goddess Sita in 1961 movie 'Sitarama Kalyanam' by Senior NTR (Nandamuri Taraka Ramarao), passed away in a Hyderabad hospital following a cardiac arrest. She was aged 74.
Geetanjali was rushed to a private super-speciality hospital for treatment but the doctors declared she was brought dead.
Condoling her death, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said Geetanjali's role as Goddess Sita in 'Sitarama Kalynam' would be remembered forever.
Several Telugu actors and also the Telugu Movie Artists Association condoled the death the Geetanjali. Geetanjali acted in about 500 films and some of herother memorable films include 'Doctor Chakravarti', 'LethaManasulu' and 'Sambarala Rambabu'.
Originally named as Mani, Geetanjali was born at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. Featuring in over 500 films across multiple languages like Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi, Geetanjali had an illustrous career spaning six decades. During the peak of her film career, she got married to fellow actor Ramakrishna after sharing the screen with him in a few films. Her son Adith Srinivas also tested his fate as an actor with the 2008 film Bhuma.
The last rites of the great actress will be performed this evening and tributes have already started to come in from all quarters of the film fraternity.
