Popular Tamil actor Bala Singh who portrayed notable characters in films like Virumaandi, Pudhupettai, SaamyTamil passed away on Wednesday at a private hospital in Chennai. He was aged 67. The actor was admitted to the hospital after he was diagnosed with food poisoning.
The veteran actor’s mortal remains will be kept at his house in Virugambakkam on Wednesday and then will be taken to Nagercoil for the last rites.
A National School of Drama pass out, Bala Singh started his acting journey as a theatre artist. He made his silver screen debut in 1983 with Malayalam film Malamukalile Daivam. After a few Malayalam films, Bala made his Kollywood debut in 1995 with Nassar directorial Avatharam also starring Nasser and Revathi in the lead that got him popularity.
The actor went on to star in Tamil films like Indian, Dheena, Kannathil Muthamittal, Saamy, Virumaandi, Pudhupettai, Madrasapattinam, Jigarthanda and NGK among more. The actor also has Tamil TV shows like Soolam, Rudhraveenai, Nalla Neram and Aathira to his credit.
In the 2009 film Vannathupoochi, directed by Rasi Azhagappan, Bala played the lead role. The film explored the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren.
Bala Singh last film project was Magamuni which released in September and in which he played a politician.
