Youth Congress leader Charmesh Sharma filed a complaint against Payal Rohatgi for making objectionable comments against the family of freedom fighter Motilal Nehru.
A case has been registered against Rohatgi who is a reality television performer and is known for making controversial statements under Sections 66 & 67 of IT Act by Rajasthan Police .
The Twitter handle named Payal Rohatgi & Team- Bhagwan Ram Bhakts a few weeks ago, posted several tweets and a video on the personal life of freedom fighter Motilal Nehru, the father of first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
In the post, Payal had alleged that Motilal Nehru had 5 wives. She had made this claim quoting a biography of M.O. Mathai written by Edina Ramakrishna. Mathai was an Indian Civil Service officer and had served as the Private Secretary of Jawaharlal Nehru.
Earlier in June, Rohtagi was under fire for allegedly making derogatory statements for Maratha leader Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had called for action against her, saying that the actor made an outrageous statement against Shivaji.
In a letter to the Mumbai Police, the NCP wrote that Rohtagi’s tweet intended to foment tension in the society.
A day earlier a Mumbai-based lawyer filed a complaint against Rohtagi demanding that a case be registered for “spreading communal hatred through her social media posts”.
