The Akshay Kumar-Mallika Dua controversy escalated to a different level when Twinkle jumped in defence of her husband and posted a statement on social media. The actress was slammed by social media users for her self-claimed lame jokes on the entire row.
Twitterati labelled her response to the controversy as disappointing. The 42-year-old actress on Friday wrote a lengthy post on Facebook and apologised for her remarks.
Her Facebook statement read, ''I would like to apologize to everyone who felt that I was trivializing the cause of feminism especially because I strongly believe in equality and have been a feminist from the time I was a young woman, much before I even knew the term ''.

Mallika Dua without taking names took potshots at the Gupt star and wrote that parents are protective about their children whether they are 5 or 28.Â
That’s the thing about parents. They are protective of their children whether they are 5 or whether they are 28 â˜ðŸ»

The controversy started when Akshay Kumar, who is the super judge on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge told Mallika Dua ,'''Aap bell bajao, main aap ko bajata hun '' (You ring the bell, I will bang you).
These words offended the comedian's father Vinod Dua who expressed his anger on social media. Twinkle Khanna had backed her husband in the entire controversy and said that ''humour should be taken in the right context''.
