'Dear White People' to be adapted to TV series

Acclaimed independent drama “Dear White People” is set to be adapted into a TV series for Netflix.

Bosses at the Internet streaming service have recruited the director of the 2014 film, Justin Simien, to write all 10 episodes of the new series, as well as helm the premiere.

“Dear White People”, which was also written and directed by Simien, centred on a group of diverse students of colour experiencing campus life and escalating racial tensions at a fictional Ivy League university.

“During the film’s release, I had the pleasure to speak with hundreds of students and faculty across a variety of college campuses dealing with these very issues in real time,” Simien said in a statement.

“I’m so grateful to have this platform - not only to give a voice to those too often unheard in our culture, but to also tell great stories from new points of views. Bringing this show to such a vibrant platform is an honour I don’t take lightly.”
