Cadres of Hindu Makkal Katchi on Thursday staged a protest against actor-politician Kamal Haasan for hosting a reality show that allegedly denigrated Tamil culture.
The group shouted slogans against Haasan, Makkal Needhi Maiam founder-president, for hosting Bigg Boss which is telecasted by Star Vijay television.
HMK leader Rama Ravikumar alleged that the show aimed to break up cultural values and thrust Western culture.
“The show went against family values cherished and nurtured by Tamils the world over,” Ravikumar alleged.
“On the one hand the actor said he would usher in change through his political innings and on the other was working against societal values that are close to people’s hearts,” Ravikumar added.
A senior police official said 13 HMK workers have been detained in connection with the protest.
Police had been maintaining tight vigil at the Vijay Television office premise since Wednesday in view of the protest.
HMK had filed a complaint against Bigg Boss Season 1 in 2017, seeking legal action against Haasan and the contestants.
Currently season 2 of the programme is being telecast.
