Karan Oberoi sent to 14-day judicial custody.
Actor Karan Oberoi, who was arrested for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman, has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days. While the actor’s lawyer has said the allegations are false, the FIR made by the woman against the actor reads, ''Oberoi not only raped the woman and filmed the act but also demanded money from the victim threatening to release the video if she did not pay up.'' According to the woman, the Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi actor was in a relationship with her since 2016 and he raped her on the pretext of marrying her. Importantly, Karan and the woman met in 2016 via a dating app.
An FIR was registered at Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai under sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code against Karan Oberoi. Following the FIR, Oshiwara Police arrested the actor on Sunday.
According to reports, the actor broke down during the court proceeding on May 6. Karan Oberoi's sister Vaani Oberoi recently said that the woman is lying and it is a calculated charge. Vani spoke to SpotBoye.com and said that her brother has been framed. Vani revealed that two years back, Karan Oberoi talked to her about being harassed by a woman he met on a social networking site. While they were having a conversation, the woman was continuously calling him. Vani had even suggested Karan to install a CCTV camera as a precautionary measure.
Vani got a call from Karan Oberoi on Saturday, May 4 that he is being accused of rape. Karan's friends Pooja Bedi and members of his band have come out in support of the actor and held a press meet on May 7.
On the work front, Karan Oberoi started his TV journey with Mahesh Bhatt's Swabhimaan, where he played Bobby and went on to star in shows like Saaya and Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi. He was also a member of A Band of Boys, which was formed in 2001.
