When Doordarshan, India's national broadcaster decided to go in total rewind mode for 21-day coronavirus lockdown bringing a rerun of cult TV classics from Ramyan to Circus, a very nostalgic Indian Tweeple demanded the return of the first Indian superhero on TV, Shaktimaan, played by legend Mukesh Khanna Now the actor in a pleasant revelation said thta not just a rerun the actor is considering a sequel to the popular super hero series.
Also the curator of the show, Shaktimaan in an interview with Bombay Times, said that he is planning a sequel of the show to tell people what happens to the human with super-powers. “For the last three years, we have been working towards bringing out the second edition of Shaktimaan, which is contemporary, but rooted in our values. We were working on the sequel because people wanted to know, aage kya hua,” he said.
Not just a series, Khanna also wanted to release a full-fledged film on the superhero. Khanna had also expressed his desire to make a film on the superhero but had to eb satisfied with a telefilm as he couldn't support the project with enough finances.
Moved by the netizens demand to bring back Shaktiman to TV, Khanna said once the lockdown is over he will be in a better position to talk more about the sequel of Shaktiman .
A few years back Khanna assuring about the return of Shaktimaan said, the new season will chronicle how the character acquired superhuman powers. Khanna essayed the roles of Shaktimaan and his alter ego Pandit Gangadhar Vidyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri on the iconic series. The actor says the new season will show childhood of the much-loved hero and will give insights about his journey and no new generation actor but Khanna himself will play Shaktimaan's part in the sequel.
Shaktimaan aired on DD 1 from 13 September 1997 to 27 March 2005.
