Netflix with the aim of establishing a broader base in the Indian OOT market and finding new subscriber growth has recently officially launched cheaper subscription plan exclusively here.
The streaming service introduced a mobile-only subscription monthly plan, priced at Rs 199. India is the first and only country to get a mobile-exclusive plan for its huge number of mobile users.
Netflix announced the new mobile plan at its ‘Netflix House’ event in Delhi and promised to invest heavily on smartphones in India.
Netflix had started testing its mobile-only plan earlier this year in India. The streaming service was initially testing a Rs 250 plan but it has decided to reduce the price to Rs 199 per month. Like its other plans, Netflix’s mobile plan also has the same features.
Users who sign up will be eligible for one month trial after which they can continue or cancel. Payment options available at present include debit and credit cards.
Consumers can access Netflix content through their smartphones and tablets. It will also support SD content.
Globally, Netflix has 151 million users. Netflix is also available on over 1,700 device models. United States, Brazil and Canada are three of its largest markets, while Australia is the company’s biggest success story in the Asia-Pacific region. India differs from most of these markets due to its highly priced subscription plans.
Meanwhile, the much awaited Sacred Games 2 streams on Netflix from August 15 onwards witha stellar cast comprising of Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi, Ranvir Shorey, Kalki Koechlin, Jatin Sarna, Surveen Chawla and Luke Kenny among others.
