Agitated with storyline of Sony’s popular soap and serial ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’, a petition addressed to Smriti Irani, Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Information and Broadcasting (Additional Charge), has been started on change.org seeking a ban on the show.

The petition to get the TV serial off air has been started by two women — Mansi Jain and Shobha Shrivastava — on change.org.

The petition started by Jain has received more than 55,500 signatures, while Shrivastava’s petition has received around 400 signs within a few hours it was started.

In the petition, Jain writes, “Pehredar piya ki. — A 10 year old impressionable little kid (" piyaa") caressing and stalking a lady who's more than double his age and filling sindoor in her "maang" is being telecasted at prime time -8:30pm on sony.”

She further writes, “(Family time) It is to be devoured by the entire Nation. Imagine the kind of influence it will steadily and perpetually infuse in the viewers mindset. We want a ban on the serial. We do not want our kids to be influenced by such tv serials. Join us in signing the petition to ban this serial.”

While, Shrivastava in her petition wrote, “The serial Pehredaar Piya Ki on Sony TV shows a 10 year boy married to a woman. Who is much older to him. This is obnoxious and perverted and will severely impact impressionable minds of children. As a mother and a responsible citizen I am aghast and disturbed.”

However, ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ team believes that the show is not what people are assuming it to be. Defending the show, Tejaswi Prakash, who plays the lead role, has termed the serial as a ‘progressive’ show. Tejaswi told IANS, “I think it’s really progressive.”

The actor furthers adds that “It’s just a story. How can you judge any story? You like it okay, you don’t like it, so, you don’t like it. We are not professors, we are not trying to teach you anything.”

A few days back, TV anchor and actor Karan Wahi had slammed ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ for its content, calling it stupid and said producers should not churn out anything for TRPs.
