You are reuniting for the 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai' team after 12 years?
Getting united again for Sarabhai after 12 years, it is like coming back home and feels like something happening from one kumbh mela to another. I am very excited about it. However, despite all the gap i still feel the same nervousness I did twelve years ago.
You character Rosesh Sarabhai got immense popularity and so did his poems, was it difficult to get into that role?
I had worked very hard towards finding Rosesh. When my writer Aatish Kapadia narrated the whole thing, it was very challenging for me to perform it the way he was thinking th output should be. It actually took a lot of time before I could come up with the right voice chord for Rosesh's character. I didn't want it to look carcaturish or just a mimicry act, it has to be one's ownself. So basically, it was putting a new soul in a human body. The best part is that the hardwork paid off well as people did liked the character.
Do you relate to your onscreen character of Rosesh Sarabhai in real life?
In person I can't relate with that man at all. I don't write poems in real life.
You are more popular for you comic roles than the serious you played before venturing into Sarabhai, every thought of trying a grey shade character?
Before 2004 I did a variety of roles from a spoiled brat to a negative character and all. I even did 150 episodes of 'Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka', where a played the character of psycho man who falls in love with an elderly woman. It's just that I entered comedy after Sarabhai happened. Basically comedy is more like classical singing. One can sing normal song, but not necessarily you know how to sing a classical song.

Then, I also realised that there is more personal growth in comedy. Besides, you also become a household name as people can relate to it and treat you like your own family. So, I do prefer comedy over serious roles.
Any plans of venturing into Bollywood?
Well, I am quite happy and content with Television space. Although I am open to Bollywood if something meay comes up, however, Television will always be my priority.
One last question, you are a Hindu college passout, a college which has given several renowned filmmakers to the industry like Vishal Bhardhwaj, Imtiaz Ali etc. Did it help you in your career?
To some extent it did. Passing out from a renowned institute does give you a lot confidence to face the world and you know something good will happen. Ofcourse, you do get noticed as Hindu College is itself a big name. Besides, with so many people belonging to your college, you don't feel insecure in the industry irrespective of the phases in your life. You get a moral support in life.
