Noted singer Pt Channulal Mishra feels so far, no government has taken essential steps to preserve Indian classical music. The 80-year-old veteran exponent of the Kirana gharana from Banaras said the Indian government needs to bring a strict policy against the declination of classical era in the country.

While speaking at the Haridas Sangeet Nritya Mahotsava here, Mishra said he will take the concern to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The singer said he will ask the PM to take necessary steps regarding development of classical music.

Mishra blamed Indian cinema, saying it is responsible for not using classical music properly. "In cinema, music is linked with vulgarity now, which should not have happened. This is very unfortunate. It should be curbed," he said.
