Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth starrer '2.0', which was slated to release on Diwali this year, has been postponed for next year. According to the media reports, the movie will now release a day before Republic day next year, i.e., on January 25. The media reports suggested that the release was postponed owing to the delay in VFX work of the movie.
The news was confirmed by the makers who stated that extensice portion of visual effects used in '2.0' is being done in USA. "We are working on world class VFX, and it is taking time. An extensive portion of the visual effects work will be carried out in the USA, and our team is working in full swing now. So, we have zeroed in on January 25th, 2018 as the worldwide release date," Raju Mahalingam of Lyca Productions said in a statement.
Interestingly, '2.0', which happens to be the much-awaited sequel of Rajinikanth's 2010 release, has been one of the most anticipated movies of the year. In fact, the movie also marks the Tollywood debut of Akshay Kumar who will play the negative role in the movie.
Notably, Akki has been quite excited about '2.0' as this is the first time he'll be sharing the screen space with megastar Rajinikanth. "I always had this in my mind that whenever I would get a chance to star with Rajinikanth in a film, I would never let it go,” Akshay was quoted saying in one of his interviews.
“I feel like I am on top of the world. It’s alright getting kicked and punched. I have done that all my life. It is great to be punched by a superhero like Rajinikanth,” he added.
Helmed by Shanmugam Shankar, '2.0' will also star Amy Jackson in the lead role.
