According to the media reports, Madhavan had demanded a whopping amount for the movie which the makers refused to give after which he opted out of the movie

However, contrary to the reports, Madhavan has stated that he had to leave Fanney Khan due to date issues.

“I loved the script and was really keen to be part of an interesting ensemble like Fanney Khan, unfortunately I couldn’t commit to the project due to date issues. I wish the team of all the luck,” Madhavan said in a statement.

Reportedly, post Madhavan's exit, the producers have roped in  Rajkummar Rao.

Helmed by Atul Manjrekar, 'Fanney Khan' is said to be adapted from Dominique Deruddere’s Dutch film Everybody’s Famous and is expected to release in April 2018.
