Ranveer Singh’s first sports drama that commemorates India’s first cricket World Cup win in 1983 arrives at theatres on April 10. As the movie nears its trailer launch, Ranveer Singh shared first look of him as Kapil Dev lifting the trophy. The movie has garnered much attention since its inception and more with Ranveer’s drastic transformation as the former Indian cricket team captain.
Ranveer sharing the post wrote, “This Is 83”. Director Khan Khan on the other hand captioned the post as “We bet you all are waiting to witness this iconic moment on the big screen.”

It was on June 25, 1983 that the Indian team made history at Lord's Kapil Dev and his men lifted the World Cup trophy and changed the landscape of teh sport in India. On this day, 36 years ago, India played against the mighty West Indies and won by 43 runs.

A few days ago Deepika Padukone’s first look as Rome Dev, Kapil Dev’s wife was unveiled. Sharing her excitement for the film, Deepika wrote, “To be able to play a small part in a film that captures one of the most iconic moments in sporting history has been an absolute honour. I’ve seen very closely the role a wife plays in the success of her husband’s professional and personal aspirations in my mother and ‘83 for me in many ways is an ode to every woman who puts her husband’s dream before her own.”

As for Ranveer Singh who is already slaying his look as the cricket maestro, the star in conversation with ETimes earlier said, "2020 is very exciting because '83' is coming up. The first few looks that we have released have been loved and appreciated that very exciting for us. The entire nation is waiting for '83' because there is such nostalgia attached to it. It is like a responsibility on me, Kabir sir and the entire team that we have to make sure to give them something that makes them feel proud. The team of '83', this is the highlight of their life, it was defining chapter in their life. If we can make them feel proud then we have achieved something".
