FACT CHECK: No, It’s Not Nusrat Jahan Doing Dhunuchi Dance In This Video

Sandeep Yadav, a Facebook user, posted a 3-minute-long clip claiming that the woman seen dancing in the video is Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Nusrat Jahan. In a video shared by Yadav, a woman can be seen performing Dhunuchi dance, a prominent Durga Puja custom and one of the most awaited activities during the evening Durga aarti.

Soon after the share, the video received close to one million views.

However, we can't find the video on the same profile now.

TRUTH

The lady performing Dhunuchi Naach in the video is Rashmi Mishra and not Nusrat Jahan.

VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY

We our team in News Nation, searched on Google using keywords ‘Best dhunuchi naach’ and found a clearer version of the video uploaded to a YouTube channel. Watching the video closely, we noticed a banner in the background that said 'Hiranandani Gardens, Powai'.

After further investigation, we found that the video was uploaded on YouTube titled ‘Times Powai Sarvajanin Durgotsav 2019 || Curtain Raiser’, uploaded to a channel named Powai Bengali Welfare Association (PBWA).

We used the keywords, 'Hiranandani Powai Dhunuchi dance competition'. Our team scanned the Facebook page of PBWA and found the same video posted there on October 13, 2019.

The video post was captioned as “A glimpse of Dhunuchi nach competition performance on Saptami day at Times Powai Sarvajanin Durgotsav (organized by Powai Bengali Welfare Association, Mumbai). A super performance by Rashmi Mishra…”

This proved that the woman in question is Rashmi Mishra and not Nusrat Jahan.
