Dear Shahid, Yes We love you!!
Dear Shahid,
Cricket is a religion, it is in fact a war in either sides or border. And we are about to embark 2nd biggest Kumbha of this religion in form of ICC World T20. The battles between the two nations on border are the only fiercer ones after cricket. People in both these countries associate their nationalistic feelings with the game and often tend to forget that the athlete playing on field is just a sportsman trying to put his best. Now, when you say anything in support of your arch rivals, and to at the biggest religious fest, don’t be surprized if people conflate your gratitude with nationalism.
It happens this side also, India your colleague’s wife, more precisely your Bhabi Ji Sania Mirza, had to face tough times just for choice of her marriage, or you can say, somewhat similar reason. She had to shed tears on live TV to justify her innocence and her love towards nations. We beg you not to do that.
But that isn’t the deal here. The punch is that you showed the rare audacity to assert the love you received from India. This is something really saluteable. You rightly said that you receive love in India more than Pakistan.
Yes we love you to. Everytime you walk into the fields on number six, you would charge the ambience with excitement, thrill and energy. We love you for your sixes, we love you for spins. We even loved you when scored 45 bowl century against us. We loved it, though we didn’t like it. Yes, sometimes you are overaggressive on the field, but when it’s India vs Pakistan, aggression is something called for. And we love you for you aggression too. But what is more loveable is the person in you, out of the cricketing field.
But yes you have to understand the grim fact that in both these countries, every single non-issue is politicised by certain elements. And the softest targets are the talents like you.
Not only you, but we love actors, singers, writers… or in a nutshell any talent from your country, from any country. So, here is a thank you for asserting our love. We keep loving you. Just don’t get affected by whatever happened outside the field.
And don’t worry about legal notices, people who couldn’t play cricket like, play these dirty tricks to get popular.
A cricket fan
