The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on late Sunday evening announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Elections.
The list has names of a total number of 72 candidates who will contest the Assembly Elections in May in Karnataka.
The dates for the Assembly Elections were announced by the Election Commission (EC) on March 27. The polling dates for the elections are decided as May 12, while the counting of votes shall happen on May 15. Also, the elections will be held in a single phase, as announced by the EC.
News agency ANI gave the complete list of the candidates. The names include BS Yeddyurappa, Shashikala Jolle, Laxman Savadi, Mallikarjun Khuba, Shivraj Patil, and others among those contesting.ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
The Assembly Elections will see 56,696 polling stations, which is a 9 per cent increase as that compared to last year’s elections. The EC also released a list of notifications which cannot be followed while campaigning.
A total of 4.96 crore voters will take part in the voting process. Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat also said that more than 450 polling stations will be managed by an all-women staff, while the elections will see special arrangements made for the women.
The term of the current 224-member Legislative Assembly ends on May 28.
