A new coin of Rs 100 will be launched soon with an impression of late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as per a report by NDTV.

A new coin of Rs 100 will be launched soon with an impression of late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as per a report by NDTV. The coin will also bear the birth year and death year of the former prime minister which is 1924 and 2018 in both Devnagari as well in English. The weight of the coin is said to be around 35 grams.

On the other side of the coin, it will have a portrait of the Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with ‘Satyameva Jayate’ inscribed below along with the word ‘Bharat’ in the Devnagari script on the left periphery and ‘India’ in English on the right periphery.

As per a report by NDTV, a statement reads, “The inscription ‘अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी’ in Devanagri script and ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee’ in English shall be written on the top left periphery and top right periphery of the coin. The year ‘1924’ and ‘2018’ in international numeral shall be flanked at the bottom of the portrait’’.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee died on August 16 this year at the age of 93. He was the prime minister of India for 13 days in 1996, 13 months in 1998 and for complete five years in 1999.

This is not the only step taken in honour of former prime minister of India. Earlier, four Himalayan peaks have been named after him and Chhattisgarh’s Naya Raipur has also been renamed to ‘Atal Nagar’.

Recently, the Uttarakhand government has decided to rename the Dehradun airport after him. Even, Lucknow’s popular Hazratganj Chauraha will be now ‘Atal Chowk’.
