Approximately 10,220 acres of defence land in encroachment across the country, informed Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Bhamre replying to a question, said that Defence land to the extent of approximately 10,200 acres is under encroachment by various agencies of the central and state government as well as by public sector undertakings.
He further added, that appropriate measures are being taken to remove encroachments from the defence land.
Bhamre to a question on private defence industry, said that the government as issues 342 industrial licenses to 205 Indian companies since 2001.

The minister added that the defence items produced by these companies will primarily be sold to the ministry of defence.
He further added that the companies can also sell the produced to other government entities under the control of ministry of home affairs, public sector undertakings, state governments and other different licensee companies without the approval of defence production.
