At least two people were reportedly killed and several others got injured after Ajmer-Saeldah express on Wednesday derailed near Rura in Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh.
The mishap took place around 6 AM near Rura railway station, 70 km from here, Northern Central Railways PRO AmitMalviya said.
Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu is personally monitoring the situation. UP CM Akhilesh Yadav announced compensation of Rs 50000 for critically injured passengers and Rs 25000 for those who sustained minor injuries. Suresh Prabhu also announced Rs 50000 for critically injured and Rs 25000 for those who sustained minor injuries.
Injured were immediately taken to hospital after rescue teams arrived on the spot. Two people have lost their lives in the accident, as reported by PTI. However, Railways Ministry clarifies that there has been no death reported yet.
Asked about the reason of the derailment, Anil Saxena, Indian Railways spokesperson said, "there was dense fog in the morning". Due to the mishap, the Kanpur-Howrah route has been temporarily closed.
