A 29-year-old man, who was allegedly brutally thrashed by suspected gau rakshaks or cow vigilantes in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, died at a hospital on Friday, reports said.
According to police, a group of suspected cow vigilantes allegedly attacked Mohammad Ayyub four days ago when he and another man Sameer Sheikh were transporting a cow and a calf.
Ayyub’s car met with an accident on a highway at around 3am on Tuesday and resulted in the death of the calf, they said.
Ayyub, who was injured in the accident, tried to flee but a group of men chased and beat him up.
A policeman, however, saved Sheikh. Later, three gau rakshaks filed a complaint against Mohammad Ayyub and Sameer Sheikh Sheikh for illegally transporting the animals.
