'World's heaviest woman' Eman Ahmed flies out of India today for Abu Dhabi after 82 days of treatment. Eman, who has lost over 350 kgs, will continue her treatment at Abu Dhabi’s Burjeel Hospital. When she arrived almost three-months ago, Ahmed had reportedly weighed over 500 kg and was treated at Mumbai's Saifee Hospital for several health issues.
Doctors at Saifee Hospital developed a special treatment room and plan for her for careful and unique medical care. However, weeks of painstaking work turned acrimonious when Eman's sister expressed discontent over her treatment plan.
This was apparently triggered by the hospital’s decision to send Eman back to Egypt after bariatric surgery. Her brother, Selim felt her sister should have remained at Saifee Hospital for a longer period, but her doctor Dr Lakdawala and the team were of the opinion that she needed neurological rehabilitation and physiotherapy, which could be done back home.

The disagreement soon turned into an ugly spat, and Selim decided to shift the patient to Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi after consulting doctors there. The management there has promised to keep her in hospital for at least a year, and are also flying her mother, Thanaa, to be with her.
“When we brought her to Mumbai, she had a million and more health problems. Today, she is much better and will have a safer journey,” Dr Lakdawala said. Huzeifa Sehabi, COO, Saifee Hospital said, “We will bid adieu to Eman from our doorstep. She will be backed by our good wishes.”
