The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said that the 39 Indians who were taken hostage by the Islamic State group (ISS) in the Iraqi city of Mosul in 2014 are alive.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Gopal Baglay said "we are in touch with all countries that can help us."

The Indian hostages in Mosul are safe and so far no demand has been made for their release. The US and Iraqi forces have been engaged in a fierce battle to eliminate the deadly ISIS fighters as part of a US-backed offensive to recapture Mosul, which was captured by the ISIS two years ago.
