At least four powerful grenade explosions took place in Assam on Republic Day. While three blasts took place in Dibrugarh, one grenade exploded in the Charaideo district of the state. The blasts at two different places took place within 30 minutes on Sunday morning as the country celebrated Republic Day. No one has been injured in the blasts, officials said.
In Dibrugarh district, an explosion took place at Graham Bazar and another beside a gurudwara on AT Road. Another explosion rocked the oil town of Duliajan whose details are still awaited, police said.
Another explosion rocked Teok Ghat under Sonari police station of Charaideo district, they said.
According to reports, the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) (ULFA-I) is suspected to behind these blasts in Assam. Earlier, it had called for a ‘general strike’ on Republic Day asking citizens to abstain from the celebrations in the state and remain indoors.
