Four persons were killed and one seriously injured when their car rammed into a pillar on Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Lonavala this morning, police said. The car rammed into the pillar of Devale overbridge at Malvali, about 15 kms from Lonavala, on the Expressway at around 10 AM, killing four of the five car occupants on the spot, they said.
“It seems that the accident took place after the car driver lost control over the wheels and the vehicle rammed into a roadside pillar of an overbridge on the expressway,” a Lonavala rural police officer said.
“The impact of the crash was so much that the entire car got mangled, killing four persons on the spot,” he said. The victims were heading towards Pune, however, police are ascertaining from where they were coming, he said adding that the exact reason of the accident is being investigated.
The deceased have been identified as - Omkar Mancharkar, Rajvir Singh Thakur, Kunal Nigutkar and Ajinkya Karkhanis, all residents of Pune. The injured person, who is reported to be critical, has been rushed to a private hospital.
