42 CBI cases against banks, postal dept officials post-note ban: Govt tells Rajya Sabha

The CBI has registered 42 FIRs in connection with alleged irregularities in the conversion of Rs 186 crore demonetised currency notes by the banks and postal department officials. 

In reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, minister of state for personnel, public grievances and pensions Jitendra Singh said during the post-demonetisation period, the CBI has registered 42 regular cases (FIR) and four preliminary enquiries (PE) relating to the irregularities. 

He said the FIRs and PE are against 74 officials of the banks and postal department. "These 46 cases are at various stages of investigation or enquiries," Singh said.
