The 45-day annual ban on deep sea fishing along Tamil Nadu’s East coast has come into force from today, a Fisheries department official said. About 10,000 mechanised boats would not go for fishing during the ban, aimed at facilitating breeding of fish and conservation of fish stock in marine ecology, Assistant Director of Fisheries Gopinath said.

The ban would remain in force from April 15 till May 29. Tamil Nadu has more than 1,076 km long coastline and isone of the leading states in marine fish production.
