Seven people, including six school children, were killed and several others injured when a school bus skidded off the road and rolled down a deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district. According to reports, the incident happened when a private bus ferrying students of DAV School fell into a gorge near Renukaji, a famous Hindu shrine about 150 km from the state capital.
“The accident occurred in Sangrah town on Saturday morning. Seven people - six school children and the bus driver - were killed”, Superintendent of Police, Sirmaur, Rohit Malpani said. All the injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The condition of some of them is critical, he said.
Prima facie the accident happened due to the negligence of the bus driver, the police said. According to eyewitnesses, the local administration had a tough time extricating the victims from the badly-mangled bus.
