70 years of Independence: Young turks who can dictate the course of Indian politics in coming years

New Delhi:

India is all set to celebrate 71st Independence Day on 15th of August. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the Indian flag from ramparts of Red Fort. In the 70 years of independent India, there were many politicians who have shaped the fortunes of country. While their illustrious contributions took the country to the position where it is today, there are many budding politicians on the political landscape who have age on their side and have the potential to carry the country forward.

Chances are that the young politicians of Indian political landscape will be torch bearers as we will move forward. Seldom that we see a young politician on the horizon but fact of the matter is that it is young politicians who will take our country from strength to strength. At the occasion of 71st Independence Day, we are trying to look into young politicians who have shown all the spark to make it big in Indian politics:

1. Jyotiraditya Scindia (Birth date: January 1, 1971): He is son of Congress politician Late Madhavrao Scindia . He has already held important positions in the government. He has already served as Minister of State for Commerce and Industry. He is known to voice his opinions in the Parliament as well as outside. He represents Indian National Congress as an MP. He earned a management degree from Stanford University. He has also worked for Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley as investment banker.

2. Sachin Pilot (Birth date: September 7, 1977): He is son of deceased Congress politician Rajesh Pilot. Like father, Sachin Pilot is also a Congress politician. His title of pilot came to him as his father was squadron leader in Air Force. Sachin Pilot is known because of his quality to mince no words. He actively participates in the leading issues of the country. He is a management graduate from prestigious Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. He has already held important position of Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology in last government.

3. Akhilesh Yadav (Birth date: July 1, 1973): He is son of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. Akhilesh has already held an important position of being the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 to 2017. As the present standing goes, he has also become his party’s chief. Known for his witty oratorical skills, Akhilesh is new hope for his party. He is an engineering graduate. He married to Dimple Yadav who is also active in politics. His young shoulder carries the responsibility of his party as well as the hopes of millions of young Indians.

4. Omar Abdullah (Birth date: March 10, 1970): He is son of NC’s patriarch Farooq Abdullah. He has already served as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He is considered very close to Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. He is a B.Com graduate and grandson of Sheikh Abdullah. He, his father and grandfather, all have been Chief Minister of the state. He has also held position of Minister of state for External Affairs.

5. Dushyant Singh (Birth date:  September 11, 1973): He is son of Vasundhara Raje (a member of the Scindia royal family of Gwalior).  Dushyant Singh belongs to Bhartiya Janata Party. He acquired a management degree from IHTTI School of Management, Neuchatel, Switzerland. He represents the Jhalawar-Baran constituency of Rajasthan. He is son of last recognised titular Maharaja of Dholpur, Hemant Singh. He completed his schooling at Colonel Brown Cambridge School and The Doon School.

6. Rahul Gandhi (Birth date: June 19, 1970): Rahul hails from one of India’s most powerful political family. Three members of his family have been Prime Ministers in independent India. His father, Rajiv Gandhi, was also Prime Minister of India. He is currently Vice President of Congress party. He has been very active in politics of late. As we near 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there are chances that he will spearhead the Congress’ campaign. He went to Harvard University but after assassination of his father, he was shifted to Rollins College, University of Florida due to security reasons.
