Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed the Parliament on the occasion of 75 years of Quit India Movement. He not only hailed the freedom fighters but also said that the 'movement' marked the rise of a new leadership.

PM Modi began his speech saying that this is a special occasion and movements like ‘Quit India’ should be remembered as it gives strength to the nation. He also didn’t forget to mention the youth of India. “It is important for the younger generation to know about historical events like the Quit India movement,” he said.

PM Modi praised Mahatma Gandhi for his role in the freedom struggle saying “The Quit India movement marked the rise of a new leadership. They supported Mahatma Gandhi during the movement.”

He also talked about the several challenges including poverty, lack of education and malnutrition which are being faced by the country. “Poverty, lack of education & malnutrition - these are big challenges our nation faces. We need to bring a positive change in this regard,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that the Indian freedom struggle set the example for the other nations too. “Our freedom was not only about our country. It was a defining moment in bringing an end to colonialism in other parts of the world too,” he said.

Appreciating women’s role in the freedom struggle, PM Modi said “In the freedom struggle of India, the role of women was important.”

“From 2017 to 2022, when India turns 75, we need to create the same spirit that existed from 1942 to 1947,” he said.
