Five years ago on this day happened one of the most people centric political revolution that changed the way we look at politics in India.
At Delhi’s Ramleela ground was formed the country’s biggest political alternative, a people’s party called the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
On Sunday, the AAP cadres and supporters congregated to celebrate the fifth anniversary. Where Delhi Chief Minister (CM) and the National Convener, Arvind Kejriwal gave a full account of the party’s achievement in the past five years, at the same time Kumar Vishwas came heavily on the critics within the party.
When the party was formed this day five years ago, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal championed himself as the mascot of the common man and captured the imagination of the people—and, soon, the Assembly in Delhi.
A nostalgic Arvind Kejriwal while addressing to the supporters said that, “Purane din yaad aa gaye (I recall the old days)”.
Anna Hazare was performing hunger strike. The people were asked to draft Jan Lokpal because corruption had crept deep in our system.
“The ‘aam aadmi’ (common man) of the country were made fun off and was told to fight elections and enter the parliament. In our first stint of forming government for 49 days, the AAP was David compared to the Goliath of Corruption which we ended,” said the AAP chief.
“The traffic police at the signals stopped taking money. But the moment we moved out of the government the bribe takers recovered 49 days of loss,” said the Delhi CM.
“They put the Income Tax (IT) Department behind us. 33 on me, eight each on Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain. Still they couldn’t shake our will power,” said AAP National Convener.
“GST and Demonetization has caused lot of problem to the people, BJP emerged to be the father of corruption than the Congress.”
“I appeal to the people of Gujarat to vote the one who can defeat the BJP,” said Arvind Kejriwal.
Kumar Vishwas, vocal as always recalled how he was not allowed to speak for seven months.
“People threatened me of ultimate humiliation if I join AAP which will make me abandon the party. The party has shifted its focus from the core issues and principals on which it was formed. We need to bring it back.”
“Like a sick man cannot treat a hospital full of patients, similarly, we need to look inside and introspect.”
“From the grounds of Ram Leela we have to retrace our path and carve a new destiny,” said Kumar Vishwas.
