The Aaam Aadmi party-led Delhi government on Friday heaped praise on Uttar Pradesh chief minister yogi Adityanath, saying that his initiative to cancel holidays on the birth and death anniversaries of famous public figures is a good one and they are ready to learn from other states.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia wrote on Twitter that he has directed the chief secretary to cancel such holidays.

He also wrote scrapping of red beacon culture gave them encouragement, saying that there are ready to learn from other states.

In Uttar Pradesh, there are 42 public holidays of which at least 17 are related to the birth anniversaries of eminent personalities.

"There should be no holidays in schools on the birth anniversary of great personalities. Instead, a special two- hour programme should be held to teach students about them. The 220-day academic session has been reduced to only 120 days due to such holidays and if this tradition continues, there will be no day left for teaching in schools," Adityanath had said.
