The Income Tax Department on Tuesday recovered unaccounted income and investment worth Rs 130 cr from Aam Adami Party’s MLA from Mehrauli Kartar Singh Tanwar. This recovery could result in a major embarrassment for AAP ahead of Punjab assembly elections, as the party vouches on the honesty of its candidates.

The department had earlier seized unaccounted cash and jewellery of about Rs. 1 cr from Kartar Singh Tanwar and his brother.

Sources in the Income Tax department say that the recent raid on AAP MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar and his associates has uncovered a major farm house scam, in which Tanwar and his associates allegedly participated in cash trades of farm houses in Chattarpur and Ghitorni area.

Sources in the department say, “It is not only a case of tax evasion. Kartar Singh Tanwar was also cheating the Delhi Government by not paying Stamp Duty and Registration Fee on huge land transactions.”

Sources also reveal that the AAP leader was fudging his accounts by showing money from land transactions as loans and advances in companies controlled by him. Tanwar had reportedly floated 30 to 35 companies for these fake transactions.

The department has also found large number of documents showing unaccounted and benami properties, sources said. Assessment of the value of these benami transactions is being done.

IT department is also investigating unexplained and unaccounted investment/expenses on construction of a mall, residential houses, marriage expenses and farm houses having possibility of substantial tax evasion.
