AAP sends back proposal to create dedicated bus lanes to LG

Three months after Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung sought a clarification from the Delhi government on its proposal to create dedicated bus lanes, the AAP dispensation today sent back the plan for his nod after making “minor” changes in it.

A government official said the proposal, advocating a fine of Rs 20,000 on those obstructing plying of buses in the dedicated lanes, has been sent back with “minor amendments”.

As per the AAP government’s plan, dedicated bus lanes will be created in major roads across the national capital.

“After consultations with PWD, the Transport department and the Law department, the proposal has been sent back to the LG’s office,” the official said.

Sources said that in case the LG turns down the proposal “again”, the government may move court against it as the proposal is being executed as per a Supreme Court order.

The development comes three days after the LG’s office sought the Delhi government’s review on its app-based bus aggregator policy. The Anti-corruption Bureau has initiated a probe into the issue following complaints from Leader of the Opposition Vijendra Gupta.

In March, the city government had alleged that Jung turned down its proposal to create dedicated bus lanes in the city’s streets and impose of a fine of Rs 2,000 against those violating related rules.

However, the LG’s office had denied the charge claiming Jung had only sought clarification from the government on it.

The LG and the AAP government have been at loggerheads on a range of issues including transfer and postings of bureaucrats and formation of the Commission of Inquiry.
