The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday came out in support of Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s unexpected hug to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after vitriolic attack during the no-confidence motion debate in the Lok Sabha.
“Parliament is the biggest temple of democracy where policies should be opposed, not individuals. But the BJP people do not like hugs, they believe in abuse,” news agency PTI quoted senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh as saying.
Speaking in the lower house of Parliament during the no-trust vote debate, the Congress president launched a scathing attack on Modi over several issues, including Rafale fighter jet.
After the attack, the Gandhi scion walked across the well of the House to PM Modi and hugged him. The unexpected gesture from the Congress chief took the prime minister by surprise.

Modi, who is famous for giving a “bear hug” to international leaders, looked stunned initially but did well to recover and called Gandhi back to pat him on the shoulder.
Singh said that the Opposition unity on no-confidence vote against the Modi government was not to topple it but to expose its “anti-people” policies.
“The Modi government had lost confidence of every section of the society, including farmers and youths, while unemployment and price rise have broken all the records. It may pass arithmetics test but how will it win back the confidence of the public,” Singh questioned.
