Veteran actor and Member of Parliament Paresh Rawal kicked up a storm on Twitter on Sunday night by posting a controversial tweet about famous author Arundhati Roy.Â
In an out of character tweet, Rawal said the author should be tied to the army jeep instead of stone pelters.Â
Instead of tying stone pelter on the army jeep tie Arundhati Roy !— Paresh Rawal (@SirPareshRawal) May 21, 2017
The Ahmedabad East MP was referring to the incident from last month, when an innocent man was tried in front of an Indian Army vehicle, being paraded in a village in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, as a warning to stone-pelters. Opposition leader, Omar Abdullah tweeted the video then, requesting for urgent inquiry and follow-up.
Here's the video as well. A warning can be heard saying stone pelters will meet this fate. This requires an urgent inquiry & follow up NOW!! pic.twitter.com/qj1rnCVazn— Omar Abdullah (@abdullah_omar) April 14, 2017
Rawal’s tweet invited flake from Twitterati as several social media users termed his actions illegal and warned him against inciting violence through his words.Â
@SirPareshRawal Your acting was often commendable but your prejudiced mindset is condemnable. Telling d army to hide behind a brave woman is shameful— ziya us salam (@ziyaussalam) May 22, 2017
@SirPareshRawal Am deeply moved by your empathy that brings every character to life in movies. But I'm shocked by your ability to be so violent with words!— Priyanka Borpujari (@Pri_Borpujari) May 21, 2017
@SirPareshRawal Why not the person who stitched PDP/BJP alliance ?— digvijaya singh (@digvijaya_28) May 22, 2017
Paresh Rawal's tweet on Roy only feeds into her narrative. The counter to her poison cannot & should not be veiled physical threats.— Arnab Ray (@greatbong) May 22, 2017
If Arundati Roy can express her freedom of speech then so can Paresh Rawal.— Vignesh Shenoy (@vigneshenoyk) May 22, 2017
Selective outragers can back off.
Paresh Rawal knows very well that all publicity is good publicity. He is only helping Arundhati Roy's new book.— Suvojit (@suvojitc) May 22, 2017
@ShekharGupta Because of being tied to fundamental ideology, Paresh Rawal is behaving like a bhakat. He has no faith in constitution . Shameful .— P Bhardwaj (@pbh54) May 22, 2017
Fiberals: we dont agree with Arundati Roy but still respect her right to voice her opinion and so we crucify Paresh Rawal for his opinion.— sachinG (@sachingodind) May 22, 2017
