Madhavi Divan appointed Additional Solicitor General in Supreme Court

The central government on Monday appointed advocate Madhavi Divan as Additional Solicitor General (ASG) to represent it in the Supreme Court. According to reports, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment and Divan will hold office till June 30, 2020. She became only the third woman to appoint an ASG in the Supreme Court. The first person was Senior Advocate Indira Jaising, while the second was Senior Advocate Pinky Anand.

"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ms. Madhavi Goradia Divan, Advocate, as Additional Solicitor General of India (ASGI) in the Supreme Court of India with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post till 30.06.2020 or until further orders," an official communication said.
