After his seat, Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala sacrificed Constitution for Modi, says Congress

New Delhi:

The Congress on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Karnataka Governor and former BJP leader Vajubhai Vala, saying that he sacrificed the Constitution and democracy for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Vajubhai Vala had sacrificed his seat for Narendra Modi earlier, yesterday (Wednesday) he sacrificed Constitution and democracy for him,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said.

Back in 2001, Vala, a Modi loyalist, had vacated his Rajkot assembly seat to allow the prime minister to contest his first election.

Surjewala fired more salvo at the Governor for inviting BJP to form the government in the state despite the fact that the saffron party lacked majority numbers.

“He conducted 1st encounter of Constitution yesterday when he invited BJP to form govt. Today (Thursday) when he swore-in BS Yeddyurappa, he conducted its 2nd encounter,” he said.

Both the BJP, which fell short of the majority but emerged as the single largest party in a hung House and the Congress, which stitched a post-poll alliance with the JD-S, had staked claims to form the government in the southern state.

While the Congress-JD-S alliance had the support of more than 112 MLAs, the BJP had only 104 MLAs, eight short of the required numbers to form the government. However, the government invited BJP’s Yeddyurappa and asked him to prove majority on the floor of the house.
