As soon as the news of Supreme Court’s verdict to uphold the decision of Delhi High Court in Dec 16, 2012 gang rape case came, people in Medawar Kala took a sigh of relief and thanked the almighty and the apex court for giving justice to their daughter.
Medawar Kala, a village on the border of Balia and Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh was the place where Nirbhaya (changed name of the victim) was born.
People of the village were praying for justice to their ‘’daughter’’ since the brutal incident happened and today, they all performed a special Puja as their prayers were actually heard.

Sweets were distributed as soon as locals came to know about the apex court order upholding the death sentence to the four convicts.
Lalji Singh, the grandfather of Nirbhaya, hoped the verdict of SC will act as deterrent and women will feel more secure now.
He appealed for reviewing the punishment to the minor in the case, saying that he is trying “to save himself through a fraud”.
Speaking over the phone to PTI, the victim’s mother termed the verdict as a victory for justice.
Her father said it was a very big day for the country and all those who were with them “in this fight are very happy”.
