Tweet condemning Pranab Mukherjee for RSS event were Sonia Gandhi’s words

After days of silence, the Congress party on Thursday came out in public to slam former president Pranab Mukherjee for his visit to RSS headquarters in Nagpur.

Mukherjee will deliver the valedictory address to around 800 RSS workers attending the final year of ‘Sangh Shiksha Varg’ training course on Thursday at 6 PM.

While most leaders from Congress didn’t attack Mukherjee directly for his visit, Sonia Gandhi’s close associate Ahmed Patel criticised him for attending the event of an organisation whose ideology he had opposed throughout his entire political career of over five decades.

"I did not expect this from you Pranab da," Patel had tweeted on Wednesday night.

According to some reports, the criticism from Patel came on the instructions of none other than but her former boss and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

It was not just the Congress party but the daughter of former president Sharmistha also disapproved his visit to RSS headquarters and warned him of repercussions of attending the event.

“Hope @CitiznMukherjee (Pranab’s twitter handle) now realises from today’s incident, how BJP dirty tricks department operates. Even RSS wouldn’t believe that you are going to endorse its views in your speech. But the speech will be forgotten, visuals will remain and those will be circulated with fake statements," Sharmistha tweeted.

"By going to Nagpur, you are giving BJP/RSS full handle to plant false stories, spread falls rumours as today and making it somewhat believable. And this is just the beginning!" she added in another tweet.

The remarks of Sharmistha, who is also the president of Delhi Mahila Congress, were in response to the rumours that she might join the BJP and fight elections from West Bengal on the saffron party's ticket.
