Air Force officer arrested for sharing classified documents with Pakistan's ISI

Indian Air Force’s Group Captain Arun Marwaha, who passed on classified information to Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been arrested by Delhi Police.

The officer, posted at the Indian Air Force headquarters, was caught red-handed by Air Force Intelligence Wing with his cell phone in prohibited area.

According to the officials, Marwaha was honey-trapped by two Pakistani agents, he befriended with on Facebook few months ago.

After chatting for some days on Facebook, they exchanged phone numbers and started chatting on Whatsapp. They also exchanged intimate messages.

Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Marwah on Wednesday on charges of providing details of secret Indian Air Force documents to ISI.

The Delhi Police has filed an FIR against him under the relevant sections of Officials Secrets Act.

According to the FIR lodged by Station Security Officer Squadron Leader Rupinder Singh, Marwaha was working as Joint Director (operations). During the interrogation, he disclosed before officers of Air Force intelligence wing that he was in touch with two women, and had passed on classified information about three new formations — Defence Cyber Agency, Defence Space Agency and a Special Operations Division — to them.”

“He also shared a classified document about the forthcoming Air Force Exercise with them, which is likely to help enemies and will affect the ‘sovereignty and integrity of India’,” The Indian Express quoted Singh as stating in the FIR.

Sleuths of Air Force Intelligence Wing was keeping a track on Marwaha’s activities after they received a secret input that some sensitive documents were leaked to the illegal persons.

The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) is also in contact with the investigators, who are also probing if Marwaha was part of a larger espionage ring.
