A special court in Delhi on Monday granted former Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram protection from arrest till April 16 in Aircel-Maxis case with a condition that he has to appear before the investigation officer everytime he is summoned.

Special CBI judge O P Saini directed the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file replies on Karti's anticipatory bail pleas within three weeks and will next hear the matter on April 16.

Karti’s counsel  Kapil Sibal argued that there was neither any allegations against his client in the Aircel-Maxis case, not was there anything to show that he knew the FIPB officials.

The Delhi High Court had granted Karti bail in the INX media case. Karti had filed a plea seeking protection of arrest in the Aircel-Maxis case soon after he was granted the bail.

The CBI and ED have alleged that Karti Chidambaram was paid Rs 26 lakh (by the seller of the equity shares of Aircel Ltd to Maxis) on April 11, 2006.
