The crucial General Council meeting of AIADMK on Thursday chose Sasikala Natarajan as the party's new General Secretary. The meeting started with Partha paying tribute observing two-minute silence tribute to late Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa.
An empty chair in the middle of the stage signified the absence of late CM and condolence resolution was passed in the meeting. All the party’s leaders and district secretaries were present at Vanagaram on Thursday morning for the meeting.

Earlier, several leaders had also urged Sasikala to assume the mantle of both the party and governance as general secretary and Chief Minister respectively.
AIADMK cadres on Wednesday had allegedly attacked and injured the husband of expelled party MP Sasikala Pushpa, who was accused of trying to create a law-and-order problem ahead of the General Council meeting.
