Amarnath Yatra deaths: Maharashtra pilgrim dies en route to shrine; toll rises to 21

New Delhi:

An Amarnath pilgrim from Maharashtra died of cardiac arrest on Thursday on the way to the holy cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, a police official in Srinagar said.

Samarjeet Sarja, 52, was reported death in the morning at Domail along the Baltal route in the south Kashmir Himalayas.

With this, the death toll in this year's Amarnath yatra that began on June 28 has gone up to 21.

In another incident on Thursday, at least 13 Amarnath pilgrims were injured when a minibus rammed into a truck near Birma Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district.

"Thirteen Amarnath pilgrims injured after the minibus they were travelling in rammed into a parked truck near Birma Bridge in Udhampur," the news agency ANI reported.

While all injured pilgrims were rushed to nearby District hospital, the driver of the minibus fled the spot. However, the injured pilgrims were out of danger. All necessary help was provided to the pilgrims, most of whom belong to Jhansi and surrounding parts of Uttar Pradesh, Jitendra Singh, Udhampur MP and MoS PMO told reporters.
