A Delhi court on Monday directed to shift expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, accused of raping a minor girl at his residence in Unnao in 2017, to Tihar Jail, New Delhi, from Sitapur prison in Uttar Pradesh. District Judge Dharmesh Sharma put up the matter for argument on framing charges in the rape case, one of the four related cases transferred to Delhi - for August 7.
Chaotic scenes, filled with high drama, were witnessed in and around the Tis Hazari court as both Sengar and his accomplice Shashi Singh, were produced in the court amidst high security of about 20 police officials. Shashi, who had allegedly lured the victim into going to the legislator's residence, has been also shifted to Tihar.
The media had tough time in the Tis Hazari District Courts complex as the lawyers and curious on-lookers occupied the space outside the special court of District Judge Dharmesh Sharma, making it difficult to get the entry to witness the proceedings.
A ruckus was also created outside the courtroom by a large gathering of lawyers who raised slogans of "koi kanoon isko nahi chodega (no law will leave them)", and "justice will be served" as the accused were being cordoned off from the courtroom. The lawyers even said that if Sengar was acquitted, inquiry will be initiated against the judge.
The CBI has recently booked Sengar and nine others in charges of murder after the rape survivor and her advocate were injured in a car-truck collision last week in Rae Bareli. Her two aunts were killed in the accident. The rape survivor's family has alleged foul play.
In the wake of this new twist in the 2017 Unnao gangrape case, the Supreme Court had last week directed to hold trial on daily basis and completing it within 45-days.
Besides the main case, the three other matters transferred to the national capital are - the FIR which was lodged against victim's father under Arms Act, his custodial death and the gang rape of the victim.
