New Delhi:

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah Tuesday will address a rally in West Bengal's Malda on Tuesday. The rally, marred by controversies after his helicopter was denied landing, is considered as the BJP's official launch of campaigning in West Bengal for the coming Lok Sabha polls. The BJP is making all-out efforts to make inroads into West Bengal, which is the stronghold of Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Earlier, the rally of the BJP president in Malda was scheduled to be held on January 20. However, due to his illness, it was deferred by two days to January 22. On Monday, a controversy erupted after the BJP accused the West Bengal government of now allowing to land a helicopter carrying Shah at an airstrip in Malda.

The accusations of the saffron party were outrightly denied by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. Banerjee said that the allegations of the BJP that her government was not allowing the landing of Shah’s helicopter were “absolutely not true”.
