Amity law student suicide: Family says college authorities harassed Sushant Rohilla

Sushant Rohilla committed suicide on August 10

Noida’s Amity University is under fire following the death of a law student Sushant Rohilla, who allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his Sarojini Nagar residence on August 10. Students on Tuesday protested outside the college after his family claimed that Sushant took this extreme step after being harassed by college authorities and was not promoted on account of shortage of attendance.

Jagdish Kumar, Sushant’s father, is a joint secretary in Rajya Sabha. The boy’s parents were not present at home when the incident took place.

Meanwhile, family members and friends of the 20-year-old student on Monday staged a protest outside the college in Noida, alleging foul play on the part of its authorities.

Sushant in his suicide note said that he was “ashamed of not being a good son, a good brother, and a good friend.” “It is unclear why he took the extreme step. He wrote he was a failure and did not wish to live,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying by a leading English daily.

After Sushant’s uncle’s post on Facebook went viral, it is now believed that the low attendance because of which he was not allowed to take exam could be the reason behind this extreme step.
